January 29, 2016, the date of my last AMES dance of my Senior year. I was looking forward to dancing the night away with my friends and not thinking about the impending doom known as graduation. This dance was particularly special to me, because I had requested one of my favorite songs in the entire universe. One of my favorite idols, David Bowie or Jareth as he is known to most people, died January 10. I requested the song As the World Falls Down from my favorite movie Labyrinth. I made this request last minute, and wasn't expecting it to be played; but about an hour and a half into the dance, Mr. Ramsey's student teacher made a special announcement.
"This next song is a tribute to a great man who left us too soon." he said.
The first notes of As the World Falls down started playing, and I just lost it. I froze and just listened to the melody that I had heard so many times before. I didn't know I had started crying until my friends Mia and Kati wrapped me in a giant hug. At this point I was sobbing and I'm pretty sure I had snot leaking out of my nose. Kati backed off the dance floor and whipped out her iPod and started filming us, meanwhile I was dragging Mia out into the middle of the dance floor. She held me at arms length, as I was now sobbing even harder and screeching inhumanly whilst laughing. As the song drew to a close I wrapped Mia in a hug and wouldn't let go; Kati was laughing extremely hard and trying to keep her iPod level.
"Oh, oh God!" Mia screamed as I sobbed on her. "What the actual hell Kaitlyn?!"
The song ended and Panic! at the Disco's Victorious started playing, and this time Kati was the one to wig out. She flew out onto the dance floor and started violently flailing. Mia and I joined her and we just full out started dancing like maniacs. No one would dare dance around us for fear they would be smacked or kicked by our limbs. We jumped and screamed and laughed our way through the song. The next song started playing, and we recognized it as Fantastic Baby by Big Bang, and again, we freaked out, Mia more so this time. Mia, Kati and I were headbanging and screeching and Mia was singing in perfect Korean. Meanwhile Kati and I were singing in fragments and laughing and just having a good time. My AMES memory is about this dance, and all of the fun I had with my psychotic friends!
