Effective Communication
This is a narrative I wrote for U of U Writing 1010, I chose to write about an incident that occurred one time when I was camping at Flaming Gorge. Our assignment was to write about a time when we learned something about literature, or something close to it. I wrote about getting the crap scared out of me by my cousins, and that night I learned the true meaning of being scared; and it was nothing like reading a Stephen King book. We had to use a certain voice for this paper, and I chose to use aspects that I had picked up from reading many different Stephen King books. In order to set the mood, I had my organization go from light to dark in a matter of minutes.
Critical Thinking
This is an argumentative paper I had to write for U of U Writing 1010, the assignment was to choose a controversial topic and include it with a narrative. I chose to write about GMOs (Genetically Modified Organisms) and set the whole story up in a tense sort of setting. Creative writing comes naturally to me so that part was a breeze, but the research part was a bit harder. I wrote from two different perspectives, something that I had never done before. It was both difficult and fun- mostly difficult though. I had to word what the character were saying in a way that would convey how they felt about GMOs. This is an essay that really made me think; but at least I now have two different perspectives about GMOs.
Integration and application of knowledge in civic, social, and personal contexts
This is my iSearch paper that I wrote for U of U Writing 1010, the assignment was to pick a topic you briefly knew about or something you wanted to learn about, and teach it to the class through the paper and a short presentation. I wrote about how to become a kettlebell master! I included proper techniques along with correct attire in order to get the most out of training. I was extremely excited to demonstrate my knowledge to the class, but I became very very sick and missed about a month of school. So I was not able to present, but I still had a great time writing this paper. It greatly excited me that I could introduce kettle bell training ( something I love so much) to the class via paper and presentation. I loved giving example in my paper on how to properly demonstrate moves. It was a challenge to think of 8 pages of things to say about the kettle bell, but it was still a great assignment. I loved connecting something I hold dear to a school assignment.
