Art
Alisa Mcdonald teaches this class. This is one of my favorite classes! We start with a warm up in our sketch books, and then its on to our main project! If you click on my art portfolio link you can see all my finished pieces. My favorite art project ever, is the perspective drawing. First you need to draw a horizon line, where the sky meets the land. Then you draw a vanishing point, then draw lines connect them. Then you erase the excess lines and you are ready to start your drawing. When I first started this class, I was not so sure of myself, but Mrs. McDonald kept raising my self esteem. The picture below is my term project. I used color pencils to make the little individual circles that fill the picture up. I also outlined the seaweed and tentacles in marker.
Chess
Laurie Oberg teaches this class. This is a good class to take if you want to know how to play Chess! It is a really fun game! We take notation, that means we take notes on our games. We write down the moves like this B (stands for bishop) to c5. Bc5. You always want to notate your moves first before you move. I came into this class not knowing a thing about chess, except that there were black and white pieces. I love this class!
Computer Technology
This class is taught by Vaughn Webster, I really enjoy this class. It is very interesting! We work on all type's of programs- Microsoft Power Point, Excel, Microsoft Word, etc. We do lots of projects; at the beginning of the year, we did a Who Am I? PowerPoint, Steve Jobs Vs. Bill Gates PowerPoint, Spread Sheet assignment, that was done on Excel. This is a typing assignment we did. We had to time ourselves on how fast we could type, and see if we could increase our typing average.
Creative Writing
This class is taught by the one and only Amy Noyce! In this class we mostly do writing, for example we have done novels, children's books, poems, and plays. We start every class period with a journal prompt that puts our imagination to the test. Below is one of my favorite assignments. We took random lines from random poems and strung them together. I tweaked mine a little bit and added some of my own lines. Enjoy!
Earth Systems
Paul Ramsey teaches this class. We learn about the solar system, the names of the planets, all about the core and mantle and inside the earth. This is one of my favorite classes! We did one assignment where we had to categorize nebula's according to what type it was. If it looked like a plate, it would be a disk galaxy or nebula! It was a lot of fun! Then we had a contest to see who could name all the galaxies, and who could match up the same group of galaxies. I loved that part it made my entire day! This is our Mid-Term Exam, as you can see, I got 89.5%.
English
This class is taught by Amy Noyce, in this class, we read different books and hold Socratic Seminars. In Socratic Seminars, the class is split up into two groups: one outer circle, one inner circle. The inner circle, talks about the book, while the outer circle listens and takes notes. We take notes in our journals, we have a journal at the beginning of every class! They mostly have to do with the books topic. We are reading In To the Wild, and Chris Mcandless, the main character, has a belt with carved images engraved on it to represent where he has been. One of our journals was, if we had a belt, what would be on it? This is a mini essay we did when we finished The Odyssey. This required a lot of thinking, but we were able to take notes on what we had to do, and use them when we were doing our mini essays.
Human Geography
This class is taught by Becky Hatch, in this class we talk about how the world around us affects us. We work in our learning journal most of the time, completing the many assignments in there. After we finish a section, we take a quiz on what we learned in that chapter. If you don't pass it the first time, you can take it again. We can take the tests as many times as we want. Once a month we have a reward movie, you are able to watch as long as you have completed all your assignments. This is our honor's packet, we work on this when Mrs. Hatch gives us homework. We only do so many problems at a time. For example, 1-19, we do the problems 1 through 19.
Math
This class is taught by Lisa Jasumback, she makes learning really fun! We have our math journals that we do our ATB (at the bell) assignment in. We usually go over the homework in class, and we ask any questions we have about the homework. We correct our homework at home, with homework help on Mrs. J's web page. Most of the homework is really easy, I get done with it really quickly. The website is really helpful if we have some questions on the homework; or if we just need tips and pointers on how to do a problem.
Spanish
This class is taught by Keith Homer, Hola! What do we do in Spanish class? Well, obviously learn the language! We take vigorous notes, make flash cards, and take video notes. Sr. Homer makes learning really fun! We watch all sorts of funky movies, about Spanish of course! Occasionally, he will show us a video completely off topic, and they are usually pretty funny!! Spanish isn't really hard to learn, you just have to apply yourself, take really good notes, and pay attention! It's really fun when you are able to carry on conversations with other people, and complete strangers! This is a rough draft of my Yo Soy poster, a poster about ourselves. We had to say what our favorite sports are, what we like to do, what our favorite colors are, and what we don't like.
