Effective Communication
This is my story titled Do I float? I had to write this for a math assignment for a getting to know you project for the Student Teacher Mr. Boyer. We were able to choose from a number of different prompts, and I chose one that reminded me of Pennywise the Dancing Clown. Pennywise is the antagonist in Stephen King's IT who terrorizes the small fictional town of Derry, Maine. This was a getting to know you project, and I am obsessed with Stephen King. Mr. Boyer and I would have long talks after class about Stephen King, and he knew my particular love for the sewer dwelling creature. He urged me to write a creative piece and he urged me to make it unusual. So I did! I wrote my take on IT, and Mr. Boyer asked if I was interested in turning it into a play. He loved my organization, and complimented me on how I placed myself and my friend Mia into the story.
Critical Thinking
This was an essay I did in English about whether or not the words "under God" should be removed from the Pledge of Allegiance. We had to discuss the opposite of what we felt was right; I was initially for removing the words, so that meant I had to write about the opposing side of the argument. I felt this assignment was an excellent example of Critical Thinking, because I had to think from two different standpoints. My overall thoughts about this essay were mixed, I liked being able to do this essay from another standpoint, yet still express my initial disdain for the words. I didn't like the topic.
Integration and application of knowledge in civic, social, and personal contexts
This is my PowerPoint I did for English detailing how to train for a 100 mile race. I had previously written a paper about it and the next step of the assignment was to create a PowerPoint. I feel like this is a good example of Integration and Application of Knowledge in Civic, Social, and Personal Contexts. I had a chance to teach the class about one of my favorite hobbies- running. I used some of my personal experiences to convey that I would like to participate in a 100 mile race someday. I had to learn about the subject of running (which I already knew a good deal of) and how to properly start training. I found if you want to start training for a 5k, 10k, whatever, to start putting in the miles by just running. If not running then walking and jogging intervals. HIIT workouts or High Intensity Interval Training is an excellent way to train for a 5k or a 100 mile race.
